My children had always loved surprises, even when they were babies playing peek-a-boo. As toddlers, they would hide things and then reveal them with dramatic flair. This love for surprises has not changed as they've gotten older. They still get excited about suspenseful games where they don't know the outcome until the very end.
Children like my 5-year-old daughter love puzzles and coloring no matter what time of the year or season. They get excited at the opportunity to work on a puzzle or color. Therefore, I created an activity allowing my children to work on their problem-solving skills while practicing different math and literacy concepts. Do you have children that enjoy these activities?
And… I have created Free Math & Literacy Mystery Picture Worksheets with Halloween Theme!
What are Mystery Pictures, and Why are They a Great Way to Learn?
Mystery pictures are a fun way for children to learn while coloring. They are pictures divided into small squares, all shaded in a specific color. Children must color the squares according to the key to reveal the mystery picture.
The unpredictability of what the picture will look like at the end keeps children so captivated that they don't even realize they're learning math and literacy!
Mystery pictures are a fun way to learn because they mix puzzles and coloring. They can also be used to review different math concepts. For example, a mystery picture could be made up of 100 squares, and each square could represent a number on the chart. This would be an excellent way for children to review counting and essential math skills.
Coloring by numbers is a fun way for you to assess your children's color and number recognition skills. At the same time, they practice their fine motor skills.
Mystery picture printables are a versatile and fun addition to any classroom or home learning space. They can be used for morning work, centers, early finishers, small groups, independent work, homework, extra at-home practice, and more!
The printables are also perfect for display on a wall or fridge. They make great conversation starters too!
