I started introducing my 3-year-old the Sagebook series. Each lesson took him over a day to grasp as he occasionally struggled to recall the pronunciation of the Chinese characters he had studied the previous day.
I realized that relying solely on books to learn Chinese characters may not be suffice, therefore, I decided to create supplementary materials that can enhance both my child's learning speed and interest.
I let him work on the Chinese tracing printables that I created for the first book (Sagebooks 1.1), and he has developed a strong interest in them. As a result, he is now able to recognize and recall each Chinese character much faster.
I have just finished creating 11 Chinese character tracing worksheets for the second book of the Sagebook series, as my son is approaching the end of the first book.

We are providing 11 Chinese characters we have gathered from the second book of Sagebook series (Blue series).
We have selected the Chinese characters which are more simple to learn and have not included the harder Chinese characters.
Here are the characters we have included:

1. Chinese Characters (Circles) – With Stroke Guidelines [Color]
Level 1: Beginner
This printable set includes 11 Chinese characters. Each character is broken down into small, colorful circles. There is also a stroke guide to help your child understand each character better!
This version of the guide has more details on where each stroke leads from beginning to end. We recommend starting with this circle version.
I usually like to start this version off with my children since they are colorful and creates more fun for them!
2. Chinese Characters (Circles) – With Stroke Guidelines [Black & White]
Level 2: Beginner
This set includes 13 Chinese characters broken down into small circles and accompanied by stroke guides in black circles – a great tool to help enhance your child's understanding of each character!
Once my kids finished the colorful circle version, they moved on to these black and white versions.
3. Chinese Characters (Circles) – Without Stroke Guidelines [Color]
Level 3: Intermediate
This set of Chinese characters does not have stroke order guidelines. We advise using this set once your child knows the stroke orders perfectly.
Once my kids have memorized the stroke order, I evaluate their knowledge using this version.
4. Chinese Characters (Circles) – Without Stroke Guidelines [Black & White]
Level 4: Intermediate
This set of Chinese characters does not have stroke order guidelines or color guidelines.
Once my kids finish using the color circle versions, I proceed with this black and white version.
5. Chinese Characters (Outline) – With Stroke Guidelines
Level 1: Beginner
This version allows your child to trace each character comfortably and eventually write confidently on their own.
My son does not have much patience to color each circle, therefore I made another outline version for him. You can always start with this version if you wish to skip the circle versions.
6. Chinese Characters (Outline) – Without Stroke Guidelines
Level 6: Advanced
This printable collection offers outlines of the 11 Chinese characters for your child's learning.
Once the kids can recognize stroke order, this set will help them become familiar with these characters without additional guidance.
How to Prepare the Printables?

- White printer paper
- Laminator (optional)
- Laminator pouches (optional)
- Ticket Holder Pockets (optional)
Instructions
STEP 1 β DOWNLOAD
You must first download the free printable. Select your preferred version.
STEP 2 β STORE
Once you've downloaded the file, save a copy in a safe place (i.e., External hard drive, cloud storage, etc.)
STEP 3 β OPEN
Open the files with Adobe PDF Reader. You can download it for free.
STEP 4 β PRINT
You can print the file by clicking on the “Printer” icon after opening it in Adobe PDF Reader.
Verify that it will print in portrait mode and choose “fit” from the page sizing & handling session.
STEP 5 β LAMINATE (optional) Or Use Holder Pockets
For heavier weight and extra durability, I use five mil laminator pouches.
Use a laminator pouch to insert each sheet. Then, laminate them using a laminator.
You can also use ticket holder pockets if you do not want to laminate them.
STEP 6 β PRESENT
Your printables are ready! It is time to present them to your kids.
